Join my conversation with 3x Grammy nominated Singer/Songwriter Will Jordan. Will recently released the official music video for his lead single, "Back To Me," from his soulful debut EP, BE GOOD. The talented R&B singer’s 8-song EP was released on all major platforms on October 13. _BE GOOD_, is entirely written by Jordan in a joint effort with award-winning producer Eric “E” Jones (Rapsody,Talib Kweli, T.I., Ludacris). Jones approached Jordan to take a departure from his hip hop and pop roots and develop a project driven by current events and fresh sounds. Releasing a project during a pandemic and with the current state of the black community may seem like a strange choice to some. For Jordan, it was a way to use his time and energy to soothe and comfort those in his hometown of Tacoma and beyond.

Episode #37 - Getting to Know Michael Keith from R&B Group 112
Thursday Nov 12, 2020
Thursday Nov 12, 2020
Check out my conversation with Michael Keith of R&B Group 112. The makers of hit songs like Cupid, Anywhere, Peaches and Cream, etc. They have a new EP called 112 Forever. We discuss their hiatus from releasing new music, Michael's recent battle with Covid-19 and their new EP ';112 Forever'. The group met while attending high school. The original group consisting of Daron Jones, Michael Keith, and Reginald Finley sang together while Jones and Keith were in middle school and Finley was in high school. Once all three were in high school, they met fellow schoolmate Aldon Lagon who was working at a local McDonald's in Atlanta and added him due to his deep bass voice. They met a high tenor vocalist Marvin Scandrick who sang with them in the school chorus. They recorded their debut album, 112. Released in 1996, the album eventually went double platinum. The album which was primarily produced by Tim & Bob entered into the top 5 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, and went on to sell over two million copies. It featured the hit singles "Only You" and "Cupid", both of which peaked at #13 on the Hot 100 and #3 and #2 on the R&B charts respectively.[1] The group also contributed to records by artists including The Notorious B.I.G., Sean Combs (as Puff Daddy) and Mase. The group eventually went on the road as the opening act for the Isley Brothers at Ron Isley's request, the first of four separate tours that saw the group criss-crossing the U.S. with Keith Sweat, New Edition and finally Puff Daddy and the Family, over an 18-month period. In the years that followed, they toured with other performers such as Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson. They had great success in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as "Only You", "Anywhere" and the Grammy Award-nominated single, "Peaches & Cream". The group most notably won a Grammy Award in 1997 for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, for featuring in the song "I'll Be Missing You" with Sean Combs and Faith Evans.

Episode # 36 - Getting to Know New Jersey Capella Band Duwende’
Friday Oct 30, 2020
Friday Oct 30, 2020
Check out my conversation with Capella band Duwende'. Duwendé (Doo-WEN-day) is a six-person a cappella band best known for their fiercely original, bass-and-beatbox-driven funk/pop style of music.
In 2011, Duwendé released Remember: The Music of Michael Jackson, gaining them widespread acclaim, and leading them to performances for the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, the United Nations, Save The Children Benefit dinner hosted by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee, the Bill Clinton Global Initiative, World AIDS Day Event in Amsterdam, and the Sundance Film Festival. With their successful YouTube channel (over 10 millions views), the band has a growing fan base that circles the globe, and their music and arrangements have been used on TV shows internationally.
Duwendé consists of J. Aaron Boykin (baritone/tenor), Derrick Leonárd (tenor), Abbey Janes (soprano), Tomás Cruz (tenor), Edward Chung (vocal percussion) and David Lane (bass). Each member adds their own characteristics and talent to the group, giving them a cappella credibility along with band persona.
Duwendé is the perfect band to get you dancing, as Deke Sharon (The Sing-Off, D-Cappella) writes, “These guys (and gal) know how to make music, and they know how to make their audiences get up on their feet and move. If you’re looking for a true a cappella original, you don’t have to look any further than Duwendé.” Duwendé’s music has made avid fans of tastemakers Jermaine Dupri and Perez Hilton and earned them multiple Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards for Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Pop/Rock Original Song. They were featured performers on NBC’s “The Winner Is”, hosted by Nick Lachey, and were featured presenters for TED TALK x for Johnson & Johnson. From sold-out shows across the lobe, including 2 consecutive tours to Japan in 2018-19, Duwendé is fast on the rise to an exciting and dynamic future.

Episode # 35 - Getting to know Boston Based Singer/Songwriter Taylor Deneen
Friday Oct 23, 2020
Friday Oct 23, 2020
Join my conversation with Taylor Deneen. Taylor Deneen Christmon is a singer, songwriter, vocal arranger, and producer studying Professional Music and contemporary Writing/Production at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Although born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, don’t let the stereotypes fool you. Taylor’s signature sound comes from a variety of genres including contemporary R&B, neo-soul, funk, gospel, and jazz. Some of her main musical influences are Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Erykah Badu, Whitney Houston, and Jill Scott. At just twenty years old, Taylor has performed in front of and worked with the likes of Grammy award-winning Missy Elliot, Chaka Khan, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dreion, and Epic Records’ very own Sylvia Rhone just to name a few. Taylor has also toured internationally and worked under the direction of award-winning musical director Rob Lewis, prominently known for his work with Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton, and Brian McKnight. Taylor began singing both classical and contemporary music at the age of six and started composing music and playing instruments shortly afterward, performing in honor bands, choirs, churches, and music festivals across the U.S. By sixteen, the National YoungArts winner had already caught the attention of artists like Angela Winbush, Andra Day, and Eric Whitacre. At the age of seventeen, Taylor was on her way to Boston to further her music education after accepting a full scholarship from Berklee College of Music.

Check out my conversation with Barry Fontenot of Barry and the Fountains. Barry J Fontenot is a Louisiana-born, Chicago-based musician whose endearing sound is dipped in mixtures of heartfelt neo-soul and alternative folk melodies. Raised and inspired by deep soul & delta blues sonic sensibilities, you can hear his channeling of legendary musicians such as Otis Redding, Sam Cook and other timeless crooners. That being said, in his original compositions, Barry reveals the more eclectic influences that have followed him throughout his musical journey — he strives, in his own words, to “write em’ like Jazz songs, play em’ like Rock songs, and sing em’ like Soul songs". Upon moving to Chicago, Barry developed a number of working relationships in the city’s independent music scene; with his closest musical collaborators, the 'The Fountains,’ he blended his distinctly smooth voice with the effortless contemporary (yet nostalgic) instrumentals of his comrades, to synthesize the group’s signature sound. Gracing the stages of the Chicago music scene, Barry pushes forward this year with his independently produced album, The Great Extreme, produced by keyboardist Amir Khay Nir, preceded by two singles: the recently released "Kleo," 8/26/2020, and the upcoming "Rose," debuting today 9/23/2020. Please enjoy these passionately crafted singles in anticipation of the full album on October 19th 2020.

Episode #33 - Getting to know Singer/Rapper/Songwriter Devin Hailey
Friday Oct 09, 2020
Friday Oct 09, 2020
Join my conversation with Devin Hailey. Devin is the son of K-Ci from K-Ci and Jo Jo and Jodeci. Devin is an incredible artist in his own right. In a continuation of impressive R&B talent, Devin gears up to release his newest hit “Kick It 2 U” on Friday September 11th. As the nephew of R&B icon JoJo Hailey, Devin holds the torch high in a dynamic furtherance of the level of artistry that has come out of the JT Entertainment label this year. With JoJo Hailey kicking off a remarkable string of releases by the Hailey family in early 2020, Devin follows his uncle and his two cousins Sakoya Wynter and Kayla Tiffany with this late summertime hit. Devin describes the track as an organic arrangement that was born of a studio session he didn’t even think he’d be at. Alongside artists and trusted collaborators Mike Smoov and Blaq Rose, Devin felt the inspiration for “Kick it 2 U” after what was a very difficult day for his family. Having experienced a loved one's passing earlier that day, Devin had no idea he’d be channeling his restless and emotional energy into a song about romance and love. Episode #32 - Getting to Know Singer\Songwriter\Musician\Producer Alan Evans
Friday Aug 21, 2020
Friday Aug 21, 2020
Join my conversation with Alan Evans. Alan grew up in Buffalo, NY in the 1980’s. There were strong musical influences in Alan’s life from the very beginning. To say that the Evans family is musical is to say that the Kennedy family has a proclivity for politics. The record player spun in the Evans household the way the TV blared in many other homes. Alan’s father, Willie, and his older brother Rod played DJ and the assembly of vinyl they accrued was broad and vast. Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Kool & the Gang, Jimi Hendrix, the Headhunters – these were just some of the sounds emanating out of the Evans living room. At his core, Alan Evans is an artist, doubling his talents as multi instrumentalist, vocalist, musician with his ear for quality and precision as a producer, recording, mixing and mastering engineer. Sporting an impressive body of work, (with credits in front of and behind the mic) a slice of Alan’s discography includes: Soulive, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Toots and the Maytalls, Alan Evans Trio and Moon Boot Lover. Mention the name Alan Evans to a room full of music lovers, and you will get a consensus nod at one of the most celebrated and tenacious drummers in the jazz, funk, and soul scene. A producer, recording engineer, guitarist, percussionist, vocalist and writer, Alan’s repertoire of skills have been perfected with two decades of dedication. Alan has had his hand on the mixing boards for many years. Co-founder, writer and drummer of Soulive for 20 years, Alan Evans co-wrote, co-produced, recorded, and mixed the majority of their work. Alan still tours the world with Soulive, and has shared the stage with legends including Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews, John Scofield, and the list goes on!
